He/She will also be responsible for maintaining system infrastructure, by including (but not limited to): installing new and rebuilding existing servers, firewalls, testing computer equipment, backing up databases, and installing and updating malware preventative software. Responsibilities Set up, configure, install, operate, maintain, upgrade, improve, and secureall relevant client computer systems and peripherals(i.e. switches, routers, firewalls, etc.) used for data acquisition, archiving, processing, dissemination, and quality control. Fully diagram/document software repositoriesand websites all system architecture,modifications, networking changes, software used, codedeveloped and/or modified, scripts utilized, existing and upgraded telemetry. Communicate technical concerns and solutionsto many different people with varying degrees of technicalknowledge and work with individuals in all departments to help solve their technical issues. Coordinate and cooperate with other contractors and/or government personnel to simplify and standardize network operations.Assist with integrationof relevant systems; optimize systems;manage the flow of databetween systems; minimize maintenance, costs, and data latency Document work and provide statusupdates through frequent emails to the client technical liaison. These reports shall discuss work addressed, progress made, problems encountered, work remaining, and an estimated timeline for task completion. Maintaindaily and weekly reporting of site and communication systems(telemetry) status, and advise USGS employees and contractors on using and responding to these reports. Maintainthe existing or develop new quality control, processing, monitoring, and alerting software and scripts. Develop and/or maintain automated transfers of metadata to the data archive, and to other locations as requested. Requirements: 2+ years experience in setting up, maintaining and securing Redhat Linux machinesand networkdevices. 2+ years experiencedirectly interfacing with users to diagnoseand resolvetheir technical problemsquickly Linux/Ubuntu in an administrative perspective Installation and customization of open-source apps. Strong scriptingskills (PHP, PERL, JAVAetc.) Experience in Debian/Ubuntu administration Excellent communication skills – written and oral Excellent customer service skills and positive attitude BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject Are you interested in this opportunity?
